SOURIAU extends its standard aeromil ranges with new products featuring high power transmission in very harsh airborne environment
Today mass saving is one of the major technological trend that leads developments in the civil aerospace market. This mass saving can be addressed by different manners : use of composite material, reducing harnesses sizes thanks to network use….One of the means of mass saving that has been developed on the new large carrier A 380 was the partial replacement of the hydraulic power ( hydraulic network that puts in motion all the primary and secondary flight surface as well as the thrust reverser and breaking systems) by electrical power. This replacement did succeed not only in reducing substantially the mass ( elimination of large hydraulic pumps as well as complex network of pipes running in the Aircraft) but also in enhancing reliability. The back up hydraulic network has been completely replaced by electro hydraulic and electro mechanical actuators located on the equipment that has to be put in motion (flaps, slats, spoilers, thrust reverser). The use of such actuators implies a local source of electrical power (60 to 80 Amps) in zone were vibration and temperature can be very severe (engine, wings, tail). To address this need SOURIAU did extend its standard aeromil ranges with high power new products. This range extension was done through the qualification of the integration of a new contact technology in standard EN 2997 and MIL DTL 38999 ranges. These latest are now qualified to provide electrical power (80 Amps per contact) in temperature (260 °C) and vibration (up to 60 G) conditions conforms to the maximum of these two standard. These products are now widely used on aeronautical equipment such as thrust reverser, spoilers, slats and flaps of the A 380.
